Crooked Cube Socks
Top-down sock pattern for knitting
I grabbed this great Botanical Fibre sock set at Fiddlehead Fibre Festival in April and wanted to play with this high contrast combination and a non superwash, recycled nylon content yarn. The geometric slipped stitch pattern on the leg is fun to do, which you know is my favourite. There is a simple cable technique that moves the slipped stitches to make those cubes crooked!
The sock comes in 3 sizes and is knit from the top down with a garter edge heel flap and traditional gusset. I finished it with my version of a rounded toe.
1 skein of fingering weight main colour yarn and 20-30g of a contrast colour is recommended.
- Sock sets with 20g minis may work for 56 and 64 stitch size, but if you have a longer foot, you may need more than 20g.
- 72 stitch sock will need between 25 and 30g.
- Stash dive and find a fun contrast colour!
Written and charted instructions are included with a video tutorial to show the simple twisted stitch/cable combination. The cables can be done with or without a cable needle.
The pattern looks great on lots of different types of yarn…Give it a try! Check out my tester’s project pages for inspiration.
Huge thanks to my test knitters Heather J, Rochelle, Leanne, Ruth, Mara, Heather E, Adrienne, Theresa and Kathryn for their feedback and their beautiful socks.
